Biography

Cameron Becker, a native of Leawood, Kansas, has built a wide-ranging repertoire across more than 750 performances at leading European opera houses. He continues to impress with his dynamic stage presence and a voice distinguished by its clarity, power, and agility.
Critics have praised his Hoffmann (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) for “vocal and acting prowess, unbelievable high notes, and an immensely present sound filled with expression.” His Walter von der Vogelweide (Tannhäuser) was described as “extremely musical…a high, powerful, yet agile voice performing consistently at the highest level.” His performances in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 were noted for a “homogeneous and beautifully coloured voice with good taste in phrasing.”
Recent and current engagements include Erik (Der fliegende Holländer) at Oper Leipzig, Chevalier de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites) at Staatsoper Stuttgart, and Colin in L’Écume des jours at Opéra Lille.
Upcoming engagements include Erik (Der fliegende Holländer) at Theater an der Wien, his debut at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing as Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), and his debut at the Vienna State Opera as Maler/Neger in Lulu.
In 2024, he made his debut at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma as Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) as well as his concert debut at the same house in Stravinsky’s Pulcinella. He also appeared at the Zurich Opera House as Pang (Turandot), followed by performances at Theater an der Wien as tenor soloist and Jüngling in Das Paradies und die Peri.
The 2022–23 seasons began with a successful debut as Hoffmann (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) at Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich and continued with a return to Teatro La Fenice as Bob Boles (Peter Grimes). He appeared as tenor soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in Milan and Turin as part of the MiTo Festival and made his debut at Teatro Massimo in Palermo in Kaiserrequiem, a staged collaboration combining Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis and Mozart’s Requiem. He also debuted as Der Maler (Lulu) at Theater an der Wien during the Wiener Festwochen.
The 2020–22 seasons were marked by pandemic-related cancellations, including planned debuts as Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore) at Teatro Petruzzelli and Fatty (Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny) at Opernhaus Zürich. Nevertheless, he performed Fenton (Falstaff) at Teatro Petruzzelli and Gringoire in Franz Schmidt’s Notre Dame at the St. Gallen Festival, and appeared as Tito (La clemenza di Tito) in Winterthur in a production with Theater Magdeburg.
From 2015 to 2020, Becker was a member of the ensemble at Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, where he performed a broad repertoire including Tito (La clemenza di Tito), Max (Der Freischütz), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), and Siegfried (Die lustigen Nibelungen). Guest engagements included appearances at Teatro La Fenice as Walter von der Vogelweide (Tannhäuser), Teatro Regio Torino, and Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari as Steuermann (Der fliegende Holländer). He received particular acclaim for his interpretation of Aljeja in Janáček’s From the House of the Dead in Calixto Bieito’s production at the Janáček Festival in Brno with the Nuremberg State Theater.
On the concert stage, he has appeared as tenor soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in Milan, Lucerne, and Pordenone, as well as in Mendelssohn’s St. Paul and Elijah throughout Europe. He regularly appears in recital and has given masterclasses and workshops in the United States.
From 2009 to 2015, he was a member of the ensemble at Theater Regensburg, performing over 500 productions across opera, operetta, and musical theater. His roles included Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Adam (Der Vogelhändler), Camille de Rosillon (Die lustige Witwe), Fenton (Falstaff), Alfred (Die Fledermaus), Alfredo (La Traviata), Victorin (Die tote Stadt), Kudrjaš (Katya Kabanova), and the Campaign Manager in the world premiere of Samy Moussa’s Vastation at the Munich Biennale.
Becker graduated with distinction from the Mozarteum University Salzburg and Arizona State University.
